Cathedral of St. Agustin Restoration and Master Plan
Dioceses of Laredo
ARCHITECTURE | CULTURAL PRESERVATION
Summary
The San Agustin cathedral has been a site of historical and religious significance in Laredo since near the city’s founding (c. 1755). The building, constructed originally with stones from the Rio Grande river, has always been connected to place — and for that reason, architects at Able City with a strong personal connection to Laredo teamed up on its rehabilitation.
The team was responsible for a full rehabilitation of the facility, from the masterplan to tower structural reinforcement to accessibility of restrooms. It opened in July 2021 after years of meticulous planning, where it can now continue to serve as a symbol of Laredo’s past, present, and future.
